Sailing in Italy
Aeolian Islands, Elba and Capraia Islands
If you have a passion for the sea but don’t want to go abroad, Skipper Armatori’s sailing holidays are an alternative that might interest you. Italy is a coveted destination for foreigners who spend much of their holidays by the sea with us. Why not be tourists in our own country, discovering less frequented locations? Skipper Armatori offers sailing holidays in Italy to find some of the most beautiful and evocative places that Italy has to offer. Skipper Armatori has been operating in the sector for over 20 years, and thanks to our consolidated experience in the field, we propose two itineraries for your sailing holidays to explore the most beautiful islands of our country: two particular itineraries resulting from our knowledge of the sea and the expectations of our clients who benefit from our expertise in organising sailing cruises in the Mediterranean.
Our Itineraries
The Sailing in Italy itineraries with Skipper Armatori will take you to explore the evocative landscapes of:
Aeolian Islands With Embarkation at Portorosa
The Aeolian Islands cruise. This first option we propose will take you to discover one of UNESCO’s heritage sites. The Aeolian Islands are a fascinating archipelago with two still active volcanoes. These islands take their name from Aeolus, the Greek God of Wind. They are known for their incomparable coastal and underwater beauty, with seabeds among the richest marine species in the Mediterranean. The islands are so different from each other in landscapes and character, offering many different things to do for a week full of activities, from sailing fun to underwater adventures for a week of relaxation and carefree enjoyment.
- Saturday: Portorosa
- Check in from 16:00 to 24:00. Crew meeting with our staff at the meeting point inside the marina of Portorosa, transfer to the boat, cabin assignment and review of safety and onboard coexistence rules.
- Sunday: Portorosa > Vulcano
- We set sail in the morning towards Vulcano, heading to the solitary black sand beach of Gelso, located on the southern side, and then visit the Horse Cave, moving to the western coast. Here, we will stop for lunch with some stunning views. With a quick navigation, we will transfer to the eastern bay and go ashore for a bath in the sulphurous springs near where we will spend the night.
- Monday: Vulcano > Lipari
- Route to Lipari to visit the Pumice Quarries and the Faraglioni. Lunch in the bay and in the late afternoon free time to visit the town of Lipari and, for those who want, the archaeological and volcanology museum.
- Tuesday: Lipari > Salina
- Sailing towards Salina and after a relaxing swim, it will be time to visit Pollara. A small hamlet where “Il Postino” by Massimo Troisi was filmed. Subsequently, after going around the island, we will refill water at S. Marina and spend the night in the evocative bay of Rinella. A suggestive location that will be the backdrop for dinner on the boat.
- Wednesday: Salina > Stromboli
- Route to Stromboli, where you should not miss the opportunity to swim near Ginostra on the island’s southwest side. After a relaxing stop in the bay, in the afternoon, it will be possible to take an excursion on the volcano or admire the eruptions from the sea (depending on conditions). After a good dinner in a local tavern, we will spend the night on the island of geckos.
- Thursday: Stromboli > Panarea
- In the morning, visit Strombolicchio and then sail towards Panarea, where we will visit Basiluzzo, with its rich and lush vegetation, followed by Calajunco, a beautiful natural turquoise green pool. Finally, we will visit the islet of Lisca Bianca with the famous Lovers’ Cave and Lisca Nera. Stop in the spectacular Milazzese Bay, and in the evening, everyone ashore to explore the island with its nightlife.
- Friday: Panarea > Portorosa
- We will leave early in the southern direction, towards Vulcano, where we will admire a very varied coast rich in reddish colours typical of the Island. Before returning to Portorosa, where we will spend together the last evening of this holiday, we will have time for a swim at Vinci beach with its fumaroles.
- Saturday: Portorosa

Tuscan Archipelago National Park With Embarkation at Marina di Scarlino
Elba and Capraia Islands Cruise. Alternatively, we propose an itinerary to experience the sea of the Elba and Capraia islands and the Tuscan archipelago Park. The Park includes the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, which, like rafts scattered in the Tyrrhenian Sea, have become the cradle of many natural environments. Due to the continuous presence of marine mammals, the Cetacean Sanctuary was established here. Elba Island, the third largest island in Italy, is a green oasis with infinite horizons, golden beaches and granite massifs immersed in the Mediterranean scrub—the ideal environment to spend a week sailing in the name of relaxation and carefree enjoyment.
- Saturday: Marina di Scarlino
- Check in from 16:00 to 24:00. Crew meeting with our staff at the meeting point inside the marina, transfer to the boat, cabin assignment and review of safety and onboard coexistence rules.
- Sunday: Marina di Scarlino > Palmaiola > Porto Azzurro
- We set sail in the morning, sailing towards the small island of Palmaiola and then heading to the solitary Istia beach in Capoliveri on the eastern side of Elba, where we will have lunch at anchor in an area of absolute beauty, but not before refreshing ourselves with a swim at anchor. Then, we will head to Porto Azzurro and spend the night.
- Monday: Porto Azzurro > Lacona
- We head towards Stella Gulf in the beautiful Acquarilli beach early in the morning and then to the wild Remaiolo beach. Here, with fins, mask and snorkel, we will be fascinated by a crystal clear seabed. After lunch, we sail towards Lacona, where we will spend the night at anchor on the most beautiful beach on this side of the island.
- Tuesday: Lacona > Capraia
- Early in the morning, we will set sail towards the island of Capraia, stopping at Pomonte to visit the wreck of the Elviscot. A cargo ship sunk at a depth of 12 metres and a refuge for moray eels, conger eels and sea breams. We will then cross the cetacean sanctuary, where encounters with dolphins, fin and sperm whales are frequent. We will visit Cala Ceppo, Mortola, Teglia and especially the suggestive Cala Rossa.
- Wednesday: Capraia > Marciana Marina
- We point the bow towards the west coast of Elba Island, specifically towards Zanca Bay, after relaxing in Brodola and Procchio’s coves. We will spend the night in Marciana Marina where, after dining in a local tavern, we will immerse ourselves in the Elban nightlife, sipping a beer in the timeless Pub Coltelli.
- Thursday: Marciana Marina > Portoferraio
- Upon awakening, we sail towards Viticcio Cove for lunch and a refreshing swim. In the afternoon, we head towards Portoferraio, an ancient fortified town built by Cosimo de’ Medici, where we will arrive just in time for an aperitif. Those who wish can visit the historic centre and Napoleon’s Villa dei Mulini.
- Friday: Portoferraio > Marina di Scarlino
- It’s the last day; we sail early in the morning to Bagania Cove and Nisporto Cove for a swim in some of the most evocative locations of the archipelago. In the early afternoon, when the mistral wind rises, we take shelter in Cavo, in the algae bay, before returning to base by 18:00.
- Saturday: Portorosa
- Check out. Disembarkation is scheduled for 09:00.
