ELBA AND CAPRAIA ISLANDS SAILING BOAT HOLIDAYS
Tuscany can be considered a true treasure chest of unique wonders: art cities, picturesque villages, extraordinary hillside landscapes, magnificent islands and coastlines, combined with simple and authentic cuisine and some of the best wines in the world.
Just 20 miles from the region’s coast lies the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. Legend has it that the goddess of beauty, Venus, emerging from the excellent waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, dropped seven pearls from her necklace around her neck. These fell into the sea and became what we now know as the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Elba Island, Capraia, Gorgona, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri.
The archipelago is the heart of the International Pelagos Sanctuary for Marine Mammals, a protected marine area, habitat for dolphins, fin whales, sperm whales, monk seals, and turtles.

The Tuscan Archipelago
Elba
The largest island of the archipelago, with 150 kilometres of coastline. You can experience the sea among long stretches of golden sand, small pebble coves, black sand or white pebble beaches and imposing granite cliffs directly from your sailing boat.
Among the most well-known locations are Porto Azzurro, a typical fishing village surrounded by golden beaches; Marciana Marina, the smallest municipality in Tuscany, a gem that will offer you evocative views along with entertainment opportunities in the numerous venues overlooking the sea; Portoferraio, a charming Renaissance town that hosts magical beaches, such as Sansone, which is among the most beautiful on the island; Pomonte, one of the wildest corners of the island and in whose waters rests the Elviscot: a wreck visible even from the boat thanks to the transparent sea.
Capraia
It is the only island in the archipelago of volcanic origin. It has only been open to tourism since the 1980s when the penal colony closed. It is an ideal destination for sea and diving enthusiasts, an authentic and exclusive land characterised by a succession of rocky and sandy seabeds and clear waters. Its waters mark the boundary between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ligurian Sea.
In Capraia, you’ll find one of the most spectacular coves in the Mediterranean: Cala Rossa, with an attractive uniqueness in its waters is reflected in what remains of the mouth of the island’s volcano.
Gorgona
Gorgona is the smallest oasis in the archipelago. Like Capraia, it was a penal and agricultural colony that could only be visited by prior reservation. Today, it is open to everyone and is the most protected area of the park. It features unique marine species, picturesque inlets, and a cave that serves as a refuge for monk seals.
Pianosa
Due to its maximum-security prison, it has been untouched for over 140 years, allowing its natural heritage to remain unchanged.
Let yourself be amazed by nature’s colourful blooms, the archipelago’s richest and most unspoiled marine depths, and ancient Roman ruins and catacombs.
The Island of Montecristo
The island made famous by the celebrated novel by Alexander Dumas is a small jewel of grey-pink granite. It is a place so precious and fragile from an environmental point of view that visiting, approaching and landing on the island is subject to request. Its steep coastlines make it inaccessible were it not for Cala Maestra, the only landing point.
Giglio
It is one of the most frequented seaside resorts by tourists and diving enthusiasts. The island is renowned for its natural beauty, from the crystal-clear sea to the Mediterranean scrub covering much of it.
In 1900, the botanist Sommier conducted a study on the island’s flora, finding 700 species, some of which are rare.
Giannutri
The unmistakable arch shape makes it a fascinating and unique island; there are no roads, and nature dominates.
The exceptional transparency of the water and the seabeds where gorgonians, corals and sponges grow, as well as the presence of some wrecks, make its depths unique.
